Botox Body Beautiful – Celebrities make the needle

By on Tuesday, 9th February 2010

Botox is now relatively well known form of treatment for facial wrinkles, and celebrities have been among the first champion of its use.

At first glance, may seem a bit strange that people are willing to undergo a treatment that involves injecting a neurotoxin (which happens to be one of the most lethal natural toxins in the world!) On their faces. But although botox, which is actually the brand name for the botulinim toxin is highly toxic to be used only in harmless quantities of minutes for medical practices.

The main effect of this toxin causes flaccid paralysis of the muscles, a muscle that prevents the possibility of a 3-4 month contract. Wrinkles are caused by contraction of facial muscles, so using botox paralyzes the muscle in the relaxed position, which reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the forehead, eyebrows or around the eyes.

One of the most attractive aspects of Botox treatment is that it is a relatively simple surgical procedure that not only involves a series of short shots. Other advantages are that it is relatively cheap, fast and easy to take, and the positive results seen after only three days after treatment. Unlike invasive surgery, no recovery time, and very few side effects. Sometimes patients report redness and swelling around the site of treatment, but this usually lasts less than an hour.

The list of celebrities who have been reports of skin rejuvenation botox are: Cher, Elizabeth Hurley, Geri Hallowell, Kylie and Madonna. But not only women who are taking advantage of this skin treatment wonder, and even the 'Peter Pan of pop', Cliff Richard, has admitted to using botox, while Sylvester Stallone is also rumored to have undergone the needle.

The media, of course, played up botox 'use in the circles of celebrity and the tabloids are constantly running "exposes" trying to "out" celebrities who have used. But the truth is that treatment is very popular, and the world of cosmetic treatments is considered quite safe (especially compared to breast augmentation, nose jobs and face lifts) and many celebrities like Joan Rivers Sharon Osbourne and I admit that using Botox injections to improve their appearance.

Apart from its use in cosmetic treatments (which did not begin until 1987), Botox has several other medical applications and has been used in the treatment of migraine, hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) and blepharospasm (involuntary blinking).

General opinion of the medical profession is that while Botox is no exaggeration can be a very efficient, quick and painless way to reduce facial lines, and is likely to get more popular with those who want a wrinkle-free skin.
